Hello and thank you for visiting my little section of Deviant Art AND taking the time to read my journal.
I think the big part of learning 3d Art is surrounding yourself with people who have the same passion that you do. That way you can learn from and teach others the skills and techniques they'll need to really fine tune their skill sets.
That being said I want use this journal entry to point any fellow artists towards some resources they might find usefull. You might already know of some but then again you might not. Hopefully you'll find something along the way that will help make you a better artists and help you get that idea out of your head and on the screen just the way you want it. (Man I wish I could...)
www.simplymaya.com - Another forum of super friendly artists (many in the industry) and a general all around great forum. Here you can post your WIP, get feedback, learn a thing or two and even take part in some challenges to help hone your skills. They also have a few free tutorials to boot.
The blueprints - Another great reference resource for anyone looking to get references on a great deal of modern day/ sci-fi vehicles, weapons and the like.
Pay for sites - Unfortunately a lot of the good stuff you have to pay for but for your money these guys are well worth it.
Digital tutors - Expert training by certified experts, you can't go wrong if you want to learn a ton of cool stuff.
3d.sk - A great reference resource full of high quality images that is royalty free
Finally for those who want to learn how to do toon shading
This guy is AMAZING! Above is his free tutorial that will show you how to do really great toon shading using maya's basic renderer. There is another tutorial that he does that shows you how to do it with Mental Ray but its a pay for download (but well worth it)
I hope these help!
